Mike was elected to his position as TCWD Director in 1994, and has since served on various committees and positions on the Board. He has previously served as a Commissioner for the Santiago Aqueduct Commission, a Commissioner for the Association of California Water Agencies JPIA and a member of the LAFCO Advisory Committee. During his tenure with TCWD, he has been actively involved in developing and supporting policies that allow the District to continue to provide water and wastewater services that are reliable, safe and as cost efficient as possible.

Mr. Safranski has been very active in the local community, serving as a Board Member of the Trabuco Highlands Community Association for over 20 years and a member of the Plano Trabuco Working Group. He was instrumental in working with the County, the Water District and the PTA to install a much needed traffic signal for Robinson Ranch Elementary School. He is a former member of the South Orange County Regional Chambers of Commerce and the Orange County Business Council. Mike is a strong advocate for energy conservation and good, sound energy policy. During the 2000 California energy crisis, he formed and acted as co-chair of Californians for Power Reliability, a group of business executives, elected officials and community members that developed a white paper on California Energy Policy that was submitted to the Governor’s Office. As a result of these efforts, Mike also contributed to the development of Energy Policies for other local business groups.

Mr. Safranski served on an advisory group for the Social Ecology Department at the University of California, Irvine and assisted in the development of their certificate program in Facility Management. Mike has his certification in Facility Management (CFM) from the International Facility Management Association and is the Senior Director of Facilities, Security and Real Estate for a high tech company based in Orange County. He currently resides in Trabuco Highlands with his wife Karleen. Their son Chris currently resides at UCI where he is pursuing his PhD in Physics
