WATER AWARENESS EVENT

The 2016 Water Awareness Event was held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the TCWD’s Administrative Facility. It was a day of fun where the staff, General Manager and Directors got to thank our customers for doing their part in conserving water. Guests learned about the science of water and about TCWD’s water projects, and they enjoyed games and a BBQ with friends and their families.

The Interactive Sealife Outreach Pod (ISOPod) returned to promote good stewardship of the environment and taught about the ecological value of the ocean and water resources. Because learning is most fun when it is hands-on, ISOPod set up display tanks of marine life, which included sea urchins, sea stars, and hermit crabs.

Tree of Life Nursery displayed examples of California Native Plants and spoke about landscape planning for those who were interested in California-friendly landscape designs. Customers enjoyed fun games, face painting, shaved ice and BBQ food that was grilled by TCWD board members. Thank you for attending the event. It was nice to meet you, and we look forward to seeing you next year!

ANNUAL WATER QUALITY REPORT

Since 1990, California water utilities have provided an Annual Water Quality Report to their customers every year by July 1st. The 2016 report covers water quality testing for the year prior (2015), and has been prepared in compliance with regulations called for in the 1996 reauthorization of the Safe Drinking Water Act. You may download a copy of the 2016 Annual Water Quality Report at www.tcwd.ca.gov.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: ALTERNATE RAW WATER TRANSMISSION LINE (PW79)

ARWT

LOCATION: Near TCWD’s Dimension Water Treatment Plant and Serrano Creek in Lake Forest.

SUMMARY: Reroute approximately one mile of pipeline used for conveying Colorado River water to TCWD’s Dimension Water Treatment Plant.

DESCRIPTION: Water from the Colorado River is supplied to TCWD through a 16-inch steel pipeline that crosses Serrano Creek in Lake Forest. The transmission line is the main source of water to TCWD’s Dimension Water Treatment Plant. The section of 16-inch pipe that crosses Serrano Creek is in threat of failure and will be rerouted to a bridge crossing where the line will be safely accessed and maintained.

“This project has been in the works since 2011, requiring coordination with many regulatory agencies, other public utilities and cooperation from public and private land owners. There are several new easements which require procurement from both private and public entities and once these are secured, TCWD will begin construction.” Hector Ruiz, General Manager.

COST: Approximately $2 million.

SCHEDULE: Tentative construction is scheduled from 3Q of 2016 to 1Q of 2017.

TCWD STAFF INVOLVEMENT: Water Distribution Operators, Water Treatment Plant Operators, and Engineer.
